Octo Members · Schroders’ Marshall Elliott On Why Plans May Falter, But Planning Is Everything

A 24-minute listen.

Army officer turned member of the Schroders operational excellence team Marshall Elliott discusses three ways the military prepares for operating in uncertain environments – briefing, training and ‘red-teaming’.

He explains the similar ways of thinking between asset managers and the British Army. An intelligence officer, he says, is similar to an investment analyst in that it’s about going out an finding out as much information as possible and turning that into an end product that allows someone else – an army commander or fund manager – to make a decision.
