Broad-reaching interview with a leading Chartered financial planner

A 28-minute watch

Some might assume a pub manager is perhaps an unorthodox training ground for a financial planner, but the breadth of people Tamsin Caine engaged with on a daily basis gave a solid foundation for the diversity of clients she helps today.

Maths graduate, CFP and director of financial planning at Smart Financial, Tamsin also leads specialist sister firm Smart Divorce.

In this Adviser Insight, she tells Sam Shaw how working with Steve Martin and Damien Rylett helped her evolve from an old-school ‘problem solving IFA’ to take a more modern approach to financial planning, through their Financial Planning Training Academy.

Hugely frustrated with the way the DB transfer market has affected good firms’ abilities to get PI cover, she also tells Sam there is a big problem emerging with so-called financial coaches.

Many (but not all) are offering advice masquerading as guidance in unregulated settings and on social media – a huge problem that risks muddying the waters of the profession, in Tamsin’s opinion.

Hear Tamsin’s views in our recent specialist panel on divorce planning here.
