A 16 minute watch.
In December, Octomembers hosted a live debate considering the implications of the Brexit split for the UK economy and markets. Now that we have a deal and know at least some of the details, we chatted to one of our panellists James Thorne, portfolio manager UK equities with Columbia Threadneedle to get his view now.
Some of the same issues apply. It remains very difficult to separate Brexit and its implications from all the noise from the pandemic and that can apply both in terms of current negative sentiment but also to the expected recovery.
James discusses the policy mistakes a UK government could make including trying to balance the books too quickly but argues that many listed small and mid-cap UK stocks remain in a strong position even if that is, sadly, the result of their non-listed rivals not making it through.
