Lively interview takes pensions through to The Muppets and… Ian Dury (yep, seriously.)

A 40-minute listen.

Not many stones are left unturned in this interview, in which Cavendish Ware’s Roy Mcloughlin speaks to industry “legend” Henry Tapper, CEO at AgeWage*.

The pair talk of the need for “a better interface” between IFAs and actuaries in terms of group schemes, noting the mistrust between both groups.

With pension complexities “bamboozling” so many teachers, they remind advisers of the opportunity to discuss death in service and long-term sick pay alongside clients’ pensions.

“Teachers teach, they don’t think about money very much yet are now being pitched into a new paradigm…”

Henry tells Roy how he was explaining the NHS pensions “conundrum” from his hospital bed, shares views on the “absolutely scandalous” tax situation hitting lower-paid earners and gives an update on the pensions dashboard.

“I don’t see a fully operational dashboard until maybe even 2025… “, drawing parallels with Crossrail and HS2.

Finally, Henry waves his proverbial magic wand over what he’d like to have seen happen in the past 40 years working in the pensions space.

A must-listen.

*Bio

Henry is one of the best-connected people in pensions. He became an IFA in 1984 and expects to reach his state pension age with 43 years of service!

A blogger and public speaker, he spends far too much time on social media.

But for all the noise, he is passionate about the outcomes of the pension schemes he has been involved with over the years and now runs AgeWage to help people understand the value pensions give for their money.
