A 20-minute listen.

ASI’s head of fund of funds, Bambos Hambi,  took some time out to join me for a discussion on how he’s been positioning his portfolios during times of crisis, and words of encouragement for active managers.

Bambos explains how, despite the downturn, his team continues to make full use of 18 different asset classes across the MyFolio range to diversify risk, while remembering not to panic.

He says: “In the UK, there have been 16 bear markets over the past 120 years. The average bear market lasts around one year, while the average bull market lasts over seven years”.

“It’s about getting things in perspective and reminding clients that there are opportunities out there at the moment.”

A focus on quality

He also believes active managers will prove their worth as an when markets begin a recovery.

He explains: “For active managers it’s about doing the due diligence, finding the companies that have been sold off and are offering fantastic value, but have the balance sheets and strong products in place that will come through this downturn. It’s very much a focus on quality”.
