A longer listen.

Graham Coxell talks me through his conviction in emotional intelligence techniques as chairman at wealth manager Rowan Dartington, and gives tips as to how a “good business can become a great business”.

While the industry is, rightly, focused on the detail of client outcomes and cost, Graham asks that companies take a step back to ensure they are serving clients with authenticity and humility. His mantra: “culture eats strategy for breakfast”.

Graham argues that it is up to the leaders of a business to set its ‘tone’, and not to fall into the camp of stifling innovation in staff with a “let me tell you how it is” approach.

“Statistics demonstrate that where people in an organisation feel liked, valued, significant and competent, their performance is significantly better,” he says.

“If people feel proud to be associated with that company, there is no doubt that has positive implications”.
