Chairman’s creative analogies on the future for innovation

A 28 minute watch.

Octo is very grateful to have Fintech Scotland’s executive chair Stephen Ingeldew feature in our Building Better Financial Services Expo.

From space tech and satellites to better regulation to improve consumer outcomes, Stephen talks to Sam Shaw all about future funding, talent drives and partnerships.

With Scotland Fintech Festival kicking off on Thursday, we hope you’ve got some time set aside over the next four weeks to take part in some of the sessions. Full brochure is available here showcasing more than 70 events – some virtual, some physical, some evening, some a whole day – looking at the wide spectrum of topics.

Technologies like blockchain, AI, blockchain and crypto, regulation, ESG, team burnout and collaboration all feature, among many other expert speakers, including Ron Kalifa OBE.

Stephen asks: “How do you make sure we’ve got that future flow of new talent coming in?” We need to look not just at young people but also recognise a need to retrain people in financial services today, probably in their 40s 50s, who have an opportunity to move into the new type of innovative enterprise.”

He describes the importances of having a breadth of expertise from all different fields to drive creativity, how to bring together the human touch such as empathy, intuition and people skills with the power of technology.

Stephen says (half) in jest: “Fintech is far too important to leave up to the financial services industry… I say that politely!”

Finally, we hear some actionable advice for anyone looking at fintechs – be it for services or strategic alliances.
