Planner Jiten Varsani dispels a number of advice myths and misconceptions
Many people told London Money’s Jiten Varsani his move from ‘full service’ financial advice to focus on mortgage and protection was a backward step, but he doesn’t see it that way.
“Your doctor can be the best GP in the world but would you want them doing your heart surgery?” Jiten Varsani
He believes protection “has become transactional but it shouldn’t be” and hates the idea that mortgage and protection have to sit side-by-side as it “creates a falsehood that if you don’t have a mortgage you don’t need protection,” which he said was nonsense.
As client outcomes are key, he says the sector needs to work more collaboratively.
“We all will signpost to a will writer, accountant, surveyor, solicitor, but it’s almost like there’s a psychological barrier when it comes to our own industry. Do we think another firm will steal our client?”
If you find the right people to work with, the client shouldn’t really see any difference, as he says “half the time, the clients forget about the firm you actually work for anyway. It’s the person they care about, not the firm.”
