Work/life balance, finding clients in lockdown and the pricing conundrum

A 37-minute listen

Partner and Chartered financial planner at Partners Wealth Management, Georgi Bennett joined the business in January after failing to find an employed option that suited her. PWM runs an LLP model, which she says is like being self-employed but with the support of a more collegiate organisation, with the option of potential equity buy-in at a future date.

Having worked for a provider, the CII, in private equity and employed as a financial adviser based down in Hove, in March 2020 Georgi had a ‘lightbulb’ moment.

Looking after a young son, running a home, working full-time with a husband also working from home forced her to reassess what she was looking for.

“I really care about my clients. Being available for a call at any time is key to a good relationship and I just couldn’t get the balance right… the pandemic really changed my mentality of what it was that was important to me, and how I could achieve that.”

A huge advocate of flexible working, she says: “It’s not just in our sector but clients are changing their ways of working as well. It helps if we reflect that.”

In this podcast we talk about how to market and meet new clients using different methods, how the pandemic has made clients “curious” about ESG – though she believes the terminology is still too confusing and it is still a very subjective topic.

Her biggest frustration?

“As an industry we still only serve a very small percentage of the population. There’s an obvious problem, and we have an obvious solution. But as an industry, we have never looked at it properly because people can’t work out how to make money from it…”
