An eight-minute watch.
Suzanne Hutchins, lead manager on the BNY Mellon Real Return Fund, talks about the workings behind the strategy, where she is investing presently, and why she is as much concerned with capital preservation as she is in delivering growth.
Suzanne talks about the challenges in a low return world for yields, where valuations can remain rich in high demand asset classes.
“You really need to make the most of your opportunity set and be as broad as possible and really maximise your toolkit,” she says, stressing the importance of diversification and flexibility in the fund.
She adds: “We have a strong philosophy about, one, understanding what we own and why we own it. Two, we want to have a liquid portfolio so that everything is daily dealing and daily valued. And three, asset class allocation and cross volatility is going to be changing constantly, so you need a dynamic portfolio and a team-based approach to manage the opportunity set.”
Suzanne also talks the opportunities she is currently seeing, particularly in emerging markets given a weaker dollar.
